We have a long and proud history dating back to 1900 when our founder, Edwin John Herbert, started the business from our current location.

Where We Started
The firm of E J Herbert was founded in 1900 by Edwin John Herbert, a sculptor who moved from Cheltenham to Newport to set up business in his wife Millecents home town. He started the business at 123 Corporation Road, using the garden and outbuildings as his workshop. He soon earnt a reputation for quality and craftsmanship and worked on many large carving projects.
Now run by Edwins great grandson the business is still based in the same premises 118 years later, with updated facilities including our showroom with many memorials on display and comfortable space to discuss your requirements.
Four generations of master craftsmen, in the same premises, a history we are very proud of.
During all these years the family have remained completely “hands on” in the business and all work is carried out or overseen by them.
